Healthanea: A new collaboration model for a new paradigm in access to healthcare

Two years ago, AXA launched the digital healthcare platform (DHP) in collaboration with Microsoft. Today the DHP has been rebranded as Healthanea. Delphine Icart, CEO of Healthanea, shares the ambition behind the new company, which wants to change the collaboration model in healthcare.

What is Healthanea’s ambition?
As patients, we’ve all experienced confusion when facing the complexity of healthcare, particularly the challenges in reaching the right specialist and the lack of information sharing between the various providers we meet along our healthcare journey.

Healthanea was born from the visionary idea of AXA and Microsoft that it’s time to take the next leap in how we manage these fragmented healthcare systems. However, the solution needs to be collective, building bridges between people, technology and services and this requires a new collaboration model – one that is powered by a best-in-class open healthcare orchestration platform to ensure that information is properly used, shared, and leveraged for an optimal healthcare experience for patients.

Our ambition at Healthanea is therefore to connect people, technologies and services and, in doing so, essentially move healthcare from a siloed approach towards an integrated, seamless, data-driven, and patient-centric journey that makes healthcare more accessible.

How does the platform work?
Healthanea is integrating healthcare services in patient-driven care pathways. It connects health providers, creating smart care pathways between patients, payers, physicians, pharmaceutical companies, and more to simplify access and secure data sharing. Orchestrating both digital and physical healthcare services further leverages insights from patient data and works to create the most effective journey for each individual thus leading to more efficient coordination of care to reduce waste and improve outcomes.

As an example, let’s take primary care coordination, one of our first two products. Picture this situation: it is midnight, and you are not feeling well. Instead of waiting for your doctor’s office to open, you connect to your online symptom checker, which offers you several choices according to your needs. It could be anything from talking to a doctor through a teleconsultation, to booking the earliest appointment with a physiotherapist because your back hurts, to booking an appointment with a therapist because you feel anxious.

Although we are not a front-end app, Healthanea’s orchestration and data interoperability capabilities permit us to digitally guide you in the background throughout your healthcare journey connecting the healthcare services you need in a logical, efficient, and sequential manner that ultimately creates a better experience. Our second product, early detection of disease, works in a similar way, except it focuses on digital risk assessment tools and population screening capabilities to enable fast-tracked access to diagnosis for patients. The orchestration occurs as we bring the patient from online risk assessment tools to proper diagnostic testing.

How does Healthanea work with AXA?
We are currently live in 7 AXA entities: Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and UK. AXA entities were our first clients, and we want to continue enriching these existing patient journeys. We are actively engaging with AXA entities to understand the needs of their clients in terms of health services, the challenges to access these services, the efficiencies that could be implemented by logically orchestrating their usage, and the data flow that could increase efficiency, knowledge, and insights.

The value of an ecosystem is based on the diversity and the richness of its players in terms of network and data, and AXA has had an anchor role in this journey. Our ambition is to grow Healthanea’s reach beyond AXA and develop an ecosystem that gathers insurers, pharmaceuticals, healthcare providers, pharmacy networks and health-tech players around the table thus bringing value to each player, including AXA.

What are your priorities over the next 18 months?
We have so far received very positive feedback from the market. Healthanea is an innovative offering, and interoperability and orchestration are hot topics today. But, as any new business, we must stay focused on our first core products – primary care coordination and early detection – to build our proof points outside of AXA. We are accelerating our implementation and go-to-market approach to benefit from the innovator position we have.

Beyond 18 months, our target is to cover the full patient cycle from primary care and early detection to post-diagnosis care coordination, for example to guide recently diagnosed cancer or diabetes patients in their care journey.

As we onboard more clients, we are confident we can prove that a health ecosystem gathering healthcare providers, payers, tech players, pharmacies or pharmaceuticals can bring collective value and change the game for patients.
