On August 1st, 2024, Rachel Duan informed AXA’s Board of Directors of her intention to resign from her directorship at the end of the year.
Following the recommendation of the Compensation, Governance & Sustainability Committee, the Board of Directors has decided today to appoint Ewout Steenbergen to replace Rachel Duan for the remainder of her mandate, that is until the 2026 Annual Shareholders’ Meeting.
This appointment (cooptation) will be effective from January 1st, 2025 and will be proposed for ratification at AXA’s 2025 Annual Shareholders’ Meeting.
Ewout Steenbergen was selected by the Board of Directors in light of his strong insurance, technology and financial expertise, and his international executive profile. He is currently Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Booking Holdings Inc.

Her international business experience and her deep insights on China and Asia were of great value to the AXA Board and to the Group. I would also like to welcome to our Board Ewout Steenbergen. I am delighted that our Board may benefit from his very good knowledge of insurance and his strong international exposure.
Ewout Steenbergen has been the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Booking Holdings Inc. since March 15, 2024. Previously, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at S&P Global Inc. (S&P
), a financial information and analytics company, since 2016. Ewout Steenbergen was also appointed as President, Engineering Solutions in 2022 when S&P merged with IHS Markit, and led Kensho Technologies, an artificial intelligence company, since 2018. Prior to his role with S&P, Ewout Steenbergen served as Executive Vice President and CFO of Voya Financial, Inc., a financial services company. He also sits on the Board of Directors of UNICEF USA.
